DIY Projects: Introduction

Carpentry, Plumbing, Electricity, Crafts, Gardening, Floors, Frames, Painting, Automation

Woodworking, electronics, and electricity were hobbies very early in my youth. My love of music led me to build wooden speakers at age 12, which were hung high up at both ends of my long, rectangular piece. Then came a large piece of furniture that my father asked me to build for the house in Sotomayor where family things that no one used or those who were studying abroad were kept. There were also some minor attempts to build desks.

From that beginning we jumped to life in the United States, where do it by your self furniture was in fashion. Nothing easy to put together, but at least you didn't have to design them, or cut the wood. When I returned to Chile I started making do it by your self furniture, but designed by me and I arrived with a list of cuts to the Home Center that helped me substantially in the construction task. From that streak and effort came nightstands, bookcases, desks, closets, among many other things. Most in white melanin.

Arriving at the house that I currently live in in 2001, I made a piece of furniture similar to the one in Sotomayor's house, but smaller, to be able to organize the things that we kept in the cellar. They spent 18 years of inactivity as a teacher, but not as a designer. I designed various pieces of furniture in the house, some with my daughter, bookcases, tables, desks, benches, etc. We gave the specifications to a furniture maker who made them. As a result of the pandemic, I resumed my love of wood and carpentry, but this time with real wood.

My first task was to build a woodworking bench. I made it with Oregon Pine wood. I had wanted to do it for several years, but hadn't had the time or energy to do it. I followed the instructions of a person who had posted on the internet how to make a woodworking bench. That was like a Big Bang. I don't know very well how I came to have a workshop that many consider a dream. Well, I do know, but it was all very fast.

Some years before he had dabbled in the jelly shop. I changed all the faucets and siphons in the bathrooms in my house that had worn down over the years, the showers and other appliances. Then I went on to paint and electricity. Here are some of the things I have done in recent years.
